If you’re a parent in East Gwillimbury, you know how important it is to find local parks and playgrounds where your kids can run, explore, and enjoy the outdoors. I'm Jessica Nakamura, an East Gwillimbury realtor and mom of three — and finding good parks is a non-negotiable part of family life around here. Here are the spots we keep coming back to.

East Gwillimbury families draw on a wider circle of parks than just what's within the municipal boundary, so this list includes the spots we actually drive to, including some gems in nearby Aurora and Newmarket.

  1. Copland Park – Aurora

Colorful playground with large green and yellow play structures featuring slides and tunnels.

Copland Park is one of my kids’ favourite play spots. The playground features an amazing multi-storey play structure with slides and tunnels that keep them exploring (and busy) for hours. They also love the merry-go-round and the saucer swing. Right beside the playground you’ll find baseball diamonds and tons of open green space for running around. There’s also a big hill that turns into a perfect tobogganing spot in the winter.

As a bonus, Your Conveniently — a corner store and café right beside the park — is the perfect stop for a treat or drink after a good play session.

  1. Environmental Park – Newmarket

I first discovered Environmental Park in Newmarket when I attended an EarlyON program there with my kids. The park and playground themselves are fairly standard, but the real gem is the network of forest walking trails and boardwalks that wind through the wetlands behind it. The trails are paved, making them perfect for afternoon bike rides or stroller walks.

This is also where you’ll find the elevated wooden boardwalk paths that went viral on social media last year. These paths let you walk right through the wetlands while protecting the natural habitat, which makes it feel like a little nature escape tucked right inside the community.

Environmental Park also hosts a number of community events throughout the summer, including family movie nights and a Halloween haunt trail.

  1. McGreggor Farm Park – Newmarket

Playground with red and green structures, swings, and slides under a cloudy sky.

My kids call this park “Farm Park” because of the farm-themed playground equipment. In addition to the fun climbing structures, there’s also a family swing where adults and kids can swing together, plus a sandpit with diggers that’s always a big hit.

The park is located right in a residential subdivision, so it’s within walking distance for many local families — making it an easy go-to for a quick park trip.

  1. Anchor Park – East Gwillimbury

Park with playground and green space

Anchor Park in Holland Landing is my go-to spot when my kids just need to run around and burn off some energy. There’s a ton of open space surrounded by trees, which makes it easy to forget you’re right in the middle of suburbia. The park also has a great mix of playground equipment, covered picnic areas, and sports fields.

Because of the space and amenities, Anchor Park is also a popular spot for families hosting gatherings and celebrations.

Holland Landing is one of my favourite communities in East Gwillimbury for families — the combination of greenspace, established neighbourhoods, and proximity to amenities is hard to beat. Here's my full breakdown of East Gwillimbury's communities if you want to dig into what living in each area actually feels like.

  1. Lake Wilcox - Richmond Hill

Lake Wilcox is just a short drive from East Gwillimbury and is a beautiful destination for families looking to combine outdoor recreation with scenic views. The lake features a waterfront promenade and boardwalk that’s perfect for an easy stroll, along with walking trails, picnic areas, and plenty of open space for kids to explore. There’s also a splash pad, playground, washrooms, seating areas, and a picnic area that make it easy to spend a full afternoon there.

Access to great parks and green space is one of the things families love most about living in this area — and it's something I highlight for every buyer I work with. If you're exploring a move to East Gwillimbury and want to know which neighbourhoods put you closest to the best outdoor spaces, I'm happy to help. Let's connect.
